Professional Development for Playwork Tutors


NVQ Training Day for Playwork Assessors & Internal Verifiers

A day to explore and understand the process, the practice and the paperwork when undertaking NVQ's in Playwork.

Plus an opportunity to participate in some standardisation of the mandatory units and discuss appropriate evidence to meet criteria.

Putting the theory into practice

A day for trainers exploring the many possible ways to deliver playwork theory to learners.

This workshop will concentrate on new ideas and activities around the delivery of the playwork principles, the theory of loose parts, the role of the playworker and other specific playwork theories.

Delivered by experienced trainer and facilitator Ali Wood and Karen Benjamin, Training Officer for Playwork Partnerships.

Playing on the Range STUDENT TRAINING

This new level 2 playwork course is fully endorsed by SkillsActive and is a course packed with information, inspiration and ideas for play rangers and others who work with children and young people outdoors in open access play provision.

Applicants need:     

- To be able to demonstrate current experience of working with children in a play setting;      
- It is desirable that learners have undertaken training which includes the Playwork Induction Standard.

Cost:                             £350 including accommodation, breakfast, lunch, refreshments and
                                       course materials.

Playing with the Elements STUDENT TRAINING

This new level 3 playwork course is fully endorsed by SkillsActive and is designed for playworkers and others who work with children aged 4 - 16 years.  Through a practical and philosophical exploration of the four elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water the course provides information, inspiration and ideas for playworkers and others who work with children outdoors. 

Applicants need:

- to have undertaken some playwork study at level 2 and currently be working with children.

Cost:                           £350, including accommodation, breakfast, lunch and refreshments,
                                    course materials  and a Quality Assurance visit and report (where 
                                    applicable).

Playing on the Range TUTOR TRAINING

This two day residential tutor training aims to provide information, inspiration and ideas for play rangers and others who work with children and young people outdoors.  The course focuses on enabling, supporting and facilitating high quality, open access outdoor play opportunities for children in parks and public open spaces.  This new level 2 playwork course is fully endorsed by SkillsActive. 

Applicants need:  

- to have at least two years face to face Playwork experience with children, specifying the type of Playwork e.g. open access or registered play provision - if you are a qualified playwork trainer, but do not have two years open access play experience, you may still be able to co-deliver with a practicing play ranger.
- to have a minimum of 21 hours practical Playwork experience (over the last year) as evidence that you are continuously updating your professional competence.
- have appropriate training and qualifications, including adult teaching, equalities, and risk assessment. It may be possible to co-deliver with an experienced playwork trainer.
- have 30 hours of delivering level 2 playwork training in the last 2 years - If you are a play ranger, but currently lacking this training experience, if it may be possible to co-deliver with an experienced playwork trainer.
- to demonstrate understanding of the importance of the Playwork Principles.
give examples of your working commitment to challenging discriminatory remarks or behaviour from playworkers, members of staff or adult learners.

                                     course materials and a Quality Assurance visit and report (where
                                     applicable).

Everyone Can Play TUTOR TRAINING

 

This two day residential tutor training will support new Everyone Can Play tutors to fully understand the course context, content and delivery of this Level 2 SkillsActive endorsed course.  

The 2-day tutor training will include:

- Disability Equality Training; 
- background and course content including links to the National Occupational Standards;         
- in depth planning for all sessions;                                          
- skills practice in delivering aspects of the course;                                    
- use of games and activities to maintain interest from students; 
- compulsory assessments for learners;   
- information on administration, resources and frequently asked questions;    
- the Quality Assurance visit and report;   
- identification of further training needs; 

Applicants need:

- to hold a Further Adult Education Teaching Certificate or equivalent;
- have experience of working directly with disabled children in a play setting, preferably mainstream; 
- to demonstrate an understanding and commitment equalities and to the inclusion of disabled children in mainstream provision;       
- to demonstrate understanding of the importance of the Playwork Principles;    
- recent equalities training or willing to undertake training;       
- to have experience of delivering level 2 playwork training.

Cost:                                  £350 including accommodation, breakfast, lunch, refreshments,
                                           course materials and a  Quality Assurance visit and report (where
                                           applicable).

NEW! Playing Creatively

A new Level 3 course* delivered over 10 hours. Suitable for:

  • Playworkers;
  • Childcare Professionals;
  • Extended Services Providers;
  • Early Years Practioners,
  • Teachers.

Training aim of the course:

To equip people with the knowledge and confidence to develop and extend opportunities for creativity when working with children and young people.

The 2-day training will include:

  • Playing Creatively - What is play, what is creativity?
  • Playing Creatively - Transforming spaces;
  • Playing Creatively - Understanding intervention,
  • Playing Creatively - The Creative Practitioner.

Current playwork training products

Playwork Partnerships has developed a variety of playwork training products that have been developed over a number of years. Funding for the development of these products has come from a variety of European Social Funded projects including Pleiad and Pilot. The products currently available through Playwork Learning & Skills include:

Take Your Pick: level 3 tutor resource materials
This is a comprehensive tutor resource pack on CDRom that includes activity plans and handouts. The pack is designed to support tutors delivering the CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Playwork and underpinning knowledge for the Playwork NVQ Level 3 Award in Playwork for Early Years and Child Care Workers. It compliments the Take Ten MORE for Play student materials.

Playwork Take 1 the Video
A 35 minute video that gives an overview of playwork and introduces a variety of playwork settings.

Take 5 for Play
A SkillsActive endorsed 10 hour introductory course for new or prospective playworkers. Materials available include a student induction pack and a tutor resource pack.

Everyone Can Play
A SkillsActive endorsed course essential for all playworkers who wish to work towards providing an inclusive play setting where disabled and non-disabled children can play together. Materials available include a student pack and a tutor resource pack.

Take Ten for Play
This course has now become the CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Playwork. The Take Ten for Play portfolio has been revised to support the new award and is available from Furzeham Publishing .

Take Ten MORE for Play
This course has now become the CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Playwork. The student materials for this course provide underpinning knowledge for the Cache Diploma in Playwork and the Playwork NVQ level 3. Materials are availalable from Furzeham Publishing.
