This week, young people from across Gloucestershire are proving their commitment to helping to stamp out child poverty by volunteering to take over the running of a Cheltenham charity shop next week.
During half term twenty young people have agreed to give up their time for free to help run The Children’s Society charity shop in Winchcombe Street, Cheltenham. This is part of Dare to Care, a national campaign designed to encourage 35,000 people to volunteer their time to help children and families living with the effects of poverty.
Cheltenham retailers, including the department stores House of Fraser and Debenhams, have supported the young people’s efforts by providing them with training on customer care and window dressing.
It is hoped that many of the young people taking part in the project will be so inspired to help others while gaining valuable retail skills that they may continue to volunteer once the week-long initiative is over. |
