SPF - Early Years Foundation S

There is currently a petition running requesting an independent review into the new Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) policy framework and requesting that it be downgraded from policy to guidance (which is what we have now).
The petition has been running since November 2006 so you may have heard of it already. The new EYFS policy comes into effect in 9 months time. Among the details is the requirement that all 3 and 4 year olds should have to learn to read and write, it applies to all Early Years settings including voluntary settings and play schemes.

If you have any questions about the EYFS then please ask, some say "it takes the play out of play work"..... There is strong evidence to support the view that trying to teach children basic reading and writing skills at an earlier age is NOT effective and that we should instead be emphasizing development through play.
